The Country is growing and has at the moment almost 1 000 citizens.
Needed thus a Minister of Immigration who will be presented later.
The editorial board has decided to publish Ladonia Herald once a month - in case of urgent need it might come
more often. This number will have a few parts written in Swedish, due to the fact
that some of the material given to the newspaper are difficult to translate. Quite a few
readers have sent us texts and ideas and anyone who wants to send us more is welcome.

* ENVIRONMENT
Complains concerning the nature in Ladonia have been e-mailed to us. The writer is annoyed
with the state of the nature on Highway 1 (connecting the border station Tall and the capital Nimis).
- Is something going to be done about this; people walking down in thousands are destroying the vegetation?
The Minister of Environment, Kjell Mårtensson, replies:
"My observations show no real problems. Walking is from an
environmental point of view no threat to the nature in this area. Erosion is very limited. Should there be a problem, it would rather be that things grow to well out here, cliffs and slopes of stone are steadily converged
with new vegetation. This might be a result of pollution."
The Minister will in this connection give the following declaration as the result of decision taken by the department:
"All traffic will be for pedestrians only (except at sea). No cars
are allowed, neither motorbikes of all sorts, neither bikes. For a period of one year
it will be so."
A strong decision made by the minister of environment. He is hoping for other countries to follow. It should make the job for the manager of car-testing office rather simple. The Office of Testing Cars started its work on the 23d of September. Lennart Jonsson from Domsten having the seat as directing manager.
* TAXES
The Minister of Finance, Sven Erik Borglund announces that there will be taxes for the
citizens of Ladonia. It might be a controversial decision but one propably has to credit Mr Borglund for his creative way of handling a difficult problem. Taxes should be payed in creativity, each citizens will give a few percentage of there creative abilities. A formula soon to appear on the webpage. Mr Borglund points out that the definition of this tax also includes bringing certain knowledge to the country. Once given it will be the property of the nation.

* NEW MINISTER 1
Minister of Soccer will be Michael O'Donnell. He was living in Manchester before moving to Norway. When not eagerly watching Manchester U playing he is a professional sculptor. Mr O'Donnell declares straightforward that he is open to all form of corruption. This should be wise resolution as the state of soccer in Ladonia so far is rather primitive. As a matter of fact what is played in Ladonia is called "stone-soccer" due to the fact that the only existing grounds consists of big stones. This is however a very good sport and we wish Mr o'Donnell all the best in his future work.
* NEW MINISTER 2
Pär Lindholm from Umeå, Sweden, has been chosen to handle the Department of Immigration. His points of view on this subject can be read on http://www.sledding.com/mpk.
You can reach him on e-mail:
par.lindholm@student.umu.se
* NOTES FROM THE STATE LIBRARIAN
On the 2nd of September Steingrimur Jonsson was appointed State
Librarian. He reflected his mood on this occasion by a quotation of Egil Skallagrimsson:
"Mjök erum tregt tungu at hraera"
There are two libraries in Ladonia. One in Nimis, books nailed to walls, and Arx, which actually consists of two stone books each with a weight of 150 tons. Mr Jonsson has figured out the system of duty deliverances two national libraries.
As he expresses it in his declaration: "In the USA you do not have any regulation of this kind, in Sweden is demanded that two copies will be kept for the future, in Iceland four copies. That means that the smaller country the more copies to be kept. I therefore suggest that all books printed should be kept in Ladonia - a law preferably valid to all sorts of new things produced in the country."
Mr Jonsson continues in dealing with the collection of foreign literature: "To get a collection
which is as concentrated as possible I propose a collection which contains a maximum of
information. That will be found in telephone books from all over the world. This collection I
will call "Simis" (icelandic "sími" telephone, english "seam")."
To replace the icelandic telephone book that was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1985, Mr Jonsson offers his own knowledge and craft to nail a new one back.
The Nation is extremely greatful for all this initiative and we pass the initiative to our citizens
from all over the world: Bring the phone books, bring the phone books!

* REMARKABLE AND UNIDENTIFIED LIGHT
By midnight 26-27th of August.
Strange light or fire was reported seen at Nimis. The swedish fire brigade (it still remains to install a fire
brigade in Ladonia) was alarmed but no marks could be found. The first ladonian two report everything-in-order was Sir Viggo (Cavling), Count of Ladonia. Sir Viggo visited the country early in the morning on the 27th.
* POLITICS
Two political parties have been established. One by citizen 96-579, Staffan Gunnarsson
staffan.gunnarsson@mailbox.swipnet.se. He has only one issue in his program and that is to construct a bridge abutment in Ladonia. He underlines that this bridge will be virtual. Really big bridges are under construction in Denmark and Sweden
and his proposal is to challenge these occasions. If the editorial board may add a comment it could be an idea to
build a bridge to unite Ladonia with The Island of Weather. This island has no inhabitants.The distance is roughly 20 km. The bridge could be made of wood and open to pedestrians only. The possibilities in this party is probably to be found in its symbolic meaning: Bridge Abutment produces endlessly allegorical meanings.
Another party was founded by the Minister of Immigration.
He says he is not happy with the idea that some of the ministers are working on, namely to connect
Ladonia with NATO.
Not to many issues in the political life at the moment. Anyway the
election will come up when
Ladonia has more than 1 000 citizens.
* APPLES
The apples are now ripe in Ladonia. There is only one known appletree in the country, it is
situated nere the see and close to Arx. The crop is strikingly rich. The same can be said about sloe. These exemples of products to show that the nation has a lot of resources.

* THE CRAB
The Government has decided that the national animal in Ladonia will be the crab. Not only does it refer to the fact that the sea and shore always are present in Ladonia, the crab is also a constellation in the sky. Furthermore we know from greek mythology that the crab successfully bit Orion's toe at a psychological moment in one of
his fights.
* REGISTRATION FOR CENSUS PURPOSES (mantalsskrivning)
It will soon be possible for the citizens to register themselves at certain places in Ladonia. A catalogue of places and adresses will be given in coming issues of the Herald.
* CUSTODIAN OF NATIONAL MONUMENTS
John Andersson (96-761) has been appointed to this position. In his proposition he declares that he will make an inventory of all ancient monuments in Ladonia. He might be able to solve the problem with "the mystical wall" that has been discovered in the county of Inner Ladonia. It is not yet known who built it and when. Mr Andersson might need some help in his efforts to tackle the obscure parts of ladonian history. Custodian can be reach at
johan.andersson@mbox6.swipnet.se
* EMBASSIES
The Kingdom of KREV has through one of the two kings, King CM von Hausswolff, suggested that diplomatic relations should be established between the countries. The
proposal is accepted by the government of Ladonia. KREV can be found on internet:
http://www.it.kth.se/KREV/
A new Embasssy was established in Hamburg on the 19th of September. Amassadors are Hanni and Udo Haase. As Ladonia has quite a few citizens living in Germany the need was urgent.
On the same day the Ladonian flag was entrusted to Karsten Ohrt,
ambassador at the Embassy (Brandts Klaedefabrik) in Odense, Denmark.
* MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER OF CLASSICISM
Minister of Classicism, Staffan Schmidt, expresses in his first declaration, that art will be defined (be it classification or quality) by the people. This can be understood as a brisk way of developing a contemporary idea on art: The most interesting art is when art leaves art and moves into other fields. He will probably come back on this highly controversial subject.

POETRY
Andreas Viktor Larsson (96-730) has provided the Herald with a poem. We are most greatful for this especially when this is the first published poem written by a ladonian citizen. We have not had the opportunity to translate it so it is published in swedish. For our englishspoken friends I can briefly say that the poem is about a Mr Abrasion who is making sculptures in some cliffs at the shore. The sculptor has a plan, i. e. not to keep and not to destroy. During his work he is sometimes rather irritated but when the sun sets he is calming down and experiencing some sort of wholeness.
* THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
It is planned that the national anthem (II) will be performed at the local radiostation Radio
Victoria in Höganäs on the 3d of October. This piece of "ordinary" music (quite different from
the radical anthem composed by Grev Jan Lothe von Eriksen - Through a stone into the water) is a tone-poem by the Minister of Health E. von Bock. We at least hope so, as there is an opposition towards Ladonia among the technicians working at the station. A month ago an interview with the temporary regent of Ladonia was stopped through a strike arranged by the technicians. Radio Victoria will be found on 94.9.
* LATIN
In this our popular columne, we have the honour of presenting the Emperor Hadrianus. Although ruler of a great empire he was never able to conquer Ladonia. It is told that the old king Ladon was to skilful to become overpowered by Rome. Anyway here is his beautiful poem on the soul:
Animula vagula blandula
hospes comesque corporis
quae nunc abibis in loca
pallidula rigida nudula?
Nec ut soles dabis iocos

* A SECRET NOTE from swedish ambassador Ola Pehrson:
Det ryktas att en viss "Tokay" (2750) som spelar på ICC skulle
vara the guy himself (Fisher), direkt från sitt gömstalle i Budapest.
"Aktion morkullan" att inledas om c:a en vecka,
English readers can be properly informed from the ambassador on
his adress:ola.pehrson@mbox330.swipnet.se
* CITIZENS FROM MANY REMOTE COUNTRIES
We especially welcome new citizens from countries far away.
Sawako Muran from Tonshin, Japan, 96-818, joined the ladonian nomades this month.
Carlos Gomez, 96-199, lives in Santa Cruz, Bolivia,
Rod Farmer, 96-658, is to be found in Melbourne, just to give some
examples.
* AT THE END OF THE DAY - A WORD FROM THE MINISTER OF HEALTH
People of All Nations! Health is Wholeness. As I am putting these words down on my pad, the sun is about to set behind the horizon outside my favourite cove. The sea has no memory and no trace of yesterday. The rocking waves underneath are playful ideas, unmarked by dead concepts, the usual sad fate of ideas unfortunate
enough to occur to modern man out of the void. The sun-warm cliff jetty around the cove corresponds to our deep sensous belly-selves. The evening breeze is an invisible diving caress. And the setting sun provides a reddish gilding to the high slab rising out of the waters in front of me, on the shoulder of which I am presently reclining, my feet laid up on the top of it, like on the golden head of a holy stone man. I bid you a fond good night.
